Scribbles by SunScales Scribbles by SunScales
Something I do when I can't think of anything to draw.

When I was in elementary school, we had an artist guest speaker come one day. He talked about these pictures he did, I don't know if this was his main thing or whatever, but he'd take a scribble on a page and turn it into something recognizable. We had a few hundred kids in the auditorium, but he called a handful of kids up to make some scribbles on these big sheets of paper he had. I got to go up, and he turned mine into an owl, which was great for me since I just love birds.

So the idea of this is to scribble on a page, then create something recognizable with what you have (try to go with the first thing you see). You can add inner details, but for the most part, you need to emphasize lines from the scribble.

I cheated a good bit with the snake, but I like it enough that I don't care.

May move to scraps later. But it's fun to do so I wanted to share it.

I tend to draw this way all the time when I'm warming up or just don't know exactly where to start.

It's definitely a great for just that. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere other than in my one elementary school assembly.
Then again, my only formal artistic training is elementary and high school classes.

I have formal training, but I think I've always done this to some extent. Its kind of a motor skill thing I think. I let my hand start going even before I know consciously what I'm drawing. Weird to describe.
